Staying safe
Most meetings go well. These habits keep it that way, and they cost nothing.
Before you meet
-
Pay transport only when you can see them
Asking for transport money is common when someone comes to you. Do a short video call first, then pay the driver or hand it over when they arrive. Never send it by mobile money to someone you have only chatted with.
-
No deposits, booking fees or unlock fees
Transport is the only money anyone should ask for before you meet. A deposit, a booking fee or a fee to unlock a number is a scam. Visitors never pay KHookup to message anyone.
-
Meet in a public place first
Choose somewhere with other people around, and tell someone you trust where you are going and when you expect to be back.
-
Keep your codes and documents to yourself
Never share a PIN, a one-time code, your ID card or your mobile money details with someone you have not met.
-
Walk away from pressure
Be careful if someone rushes you, offers to overpay and asks for change back, or wants to move to another app straight away.
-
If something feels wrong, leave and report it
Use the report button on the listing. A person reads every report, and the advertiser is never told who sent it.
What we do
- Every listing is reviewed by a person before it goes live.
- Photos are watermarked, and a profile can carry a verified badge after an identity check.
- Every listing has a report button, and every report is read.
- We never ask visitors for money, a code or a document.
If you are listing
- Your WhatsApp number is never printed on your page. Visitors reach you through a button.
- Tell a friend where you are going, and meet new people somewhere public first.
- Do not accept payment by sending back "change". It is the most common scam.
- Pay only the number shown on your payment page. KHookup never asks you to pay anyone else, and never asks for your PIN.
